  • Please note that in the cases of many vessels of a certain type, such as Ha submarines or Cha submarine chasers, the index indicates a wide range of numbered vessels over two to four pages. (For example, “Cha 151-253, WWII auxiliary submarine chasers”, on pages 219-221.) I’ve made a separate entry for each vessel, such as Cha 188 or Cha 215, so that researchers working on specific vessels can locate them in the text. It’s possible, however, that there’s little or no information on a few of these vessels. There are many vessels listed only by number where this is also the case; in some cases the index simply cites “No 1579 etc.” Vessels where this is the case are noted with an asterisk after the page range, such as “219-221*”.

The index states that "This Index does not include the ships listed in section [34], Miscellaneous Mercantile Auxiliary Vessels, since that section is already arranged in alphabetic order." I have compiled a list of all the vessels mentioned in the aforementioned section, and included them in the file I've created. These ships have very brief entries, but they may be of use to some researchers. Any entry on pages 274 through 280 is in this section.
