In some cases, ship names are previous names for a vessel. Click on "Historical Data" at the website to see all of the previous vessel names.

GrossTonnage.com is an enormous collection of data about modern merchant vessels. About one-third of the pages have images, and more are always being added.

Basic vessel information is available at the site, and more information is available by subscribing and logging in to the complete database.
